As the fall season wraps up, Mira Mesa AYSO begins preparing for postseason play, All Stars and Spring Select, leading up to possibly playing in our own Top Gun Tournament.
These programs give coaches a chance to continue developing players, build competitive teams, and represent our region at the next level.

All Stars

All Star tryouts are held immediately after the end of the fall season for players who participated in that season.
All Star coaches are expected to attend these tryouts to help evaluate players and form competitive teams.

Unlike regular season teams, All Star teams are not balanced, they are selected based on player skill, development, attitude, and commitment. Selections are made through a combination of fall player evaluations, coach input, and performance at tryouts.

Practice for All Stars begins immediately after teams are formed and continues through the holiday season.
The All Star tournament is typically held in January, with advancing teams moving on to the next level of competition in February.

All Star coaches should be ready to:

• Participate in player tryouts and evaluations

• Lead practices and manage games during the winter break period

• Communicate clearly with families about the commitment involved

• Model AYSO’s values of teamwork, positive coaching, and player development

Spring Select

Following All Stars, Mira Mesa forms Spring Select teams that compete from March through May.
Spring Select provides a higher level of play for committed players who want to keep developing their skills in a supportive environment.

Select teams play against other AYSO regions in Area 11R and nearby regions, typically practicing twice a week with weekend games.

Spring Select coaches are expected to:

• Attend the Spring Select coaches’ meeting and orientation

• Work closely with the Regional Coach Administrator during team formation

• Foster a positive, competitive environment while maintaining AYSO’s core principles

Top Gun Tournament

Our season ends with the Top Gun Tournament, Mira Mesa’s signature spring event that brings together teams from across Southern California.
Coaches leading Spring Select teams often participate, representing our region with pride and sportsmanship.
