MIRA MESA SOCCER

The Sideline CEO: Your Guide to Team Parenting

Congratulations, and thank you!
The team parent is the glue that keeps everything running smoothly. While the coach handles the soccer, you help manage communication, snacks, banners, and all the little details that make the season fun and organized.

πŸ“ What You’ll Help With

Every coach is different, so check in first, but here are the common ways team parents support the season.

Remember: this role is what you make of it. Some team parents keep things simple, while others go all out. In past seasons, team parents have helped coordinate everything from snack rotations to team banners, full-on potlucks, and even post-season highlight videos.

Here’s a list of typical responsibilities:

πŸ—£ Support Communication

  • Connect with your coach early in the season to understand how you can help.

  • Some coaches prefer to handle parent messages directly, others are happy to have your support.

  • Offer to help with reminders about games, snacks, picture day, and other events.

🍊 Snacks & Team Info

  • If your coach agrees, help put together:

    • A team roster with names and contact info

    • A snack schedule so each family knows their assigned game

  • Send reminders for snack duty, games, events and any other updates.

  • Help manage gamechanger if necessary

🏳 Team Banner

  • Lead the creation of a banner for your team to display at games and use in picture day

  • Mira Mesa Soccer requires all banners to be handmade if entering the banner competition at the annual Fall Picnic

  • Coordinate with other parents to design, assemble, and transport the banner

πŸŽ‰ Plan any team Events & Coordinate for the Picnic

  • Mira Mesa Soccer Picnic – Saturday, October 18
This is our big Fall event with:

    • Games & activities

    • A team banner competition

    • Raffle prizes

    • Food and fun for the whole family

As Team Parent, you might coordinate:

    • A team potluck: Assign snacks, drinks, main dishes, desserts, utensils, etc.

    • Who’s bringing the cake for the cake walk

    • Handmade banner design and display for entering the banner competition

  • End-of-Season Party
Help organize a celebration after the last game or practice (potluck, pizza, post game brunch, etc)

🎁 Coach Thank-You Gift

  • Coordinate a simple thank-you gesture from the team.

    • A card signed by the players, a framed team photo, or a group gift like a restaurant gift card

  • Present the gift at your season party or after the final game.
