Becoming A Coach

Coaching children is a very rewarding experience. Coaching your own child's team can be one of the most rewarding experiences of all! Coaches are essential in providing children the nurturing environment found in the AYSO program. Without enough coaches, children are left on waiting lists and miss out on the opportunity to play a season of soccer.

If you have little or no experience with soccer it is not a concern.
AYSO's coaching education program provides coaches with the instruction they need to help children learn how to play soccer in a safe, positive setting.

AYSO's coaching education program is so complete in its application, it is the only soccer specific coaching program in the United States to be accredited by the NCACE

AYSO Region 285 will provide courses for the age level you are coaching. Unique age-appropriate coach training is a strong focus of AYSO's coaching education program. If you plan to be at your child's soccer practices and games, you'll also have time to be your child's coach.

To become an AYSO Region 285 coach, you must be certified in the age level you are coaching. Certification takes three easy steps.

First, fill out a volunteer form. Then either attend a short Safe Haven™ course in person or online. Lastly, you must attend a brief age-specific coaching course. It's only a few hours. Coaches are essential to the game. Coaches teach children soccer skills, teamwork, sportsmanship and help develop a healthy, positive attitude. Coaching AYSO is a uniquely rewarding experience that provides the opportunity to build a child's self-esteem.

Email the Coach Administrator of Region 285 if you are ready to become a coach.

Requirements for Head Coaches & Assistant Coaches

If you are serving as a Head Coach or Assistant Coach, thank you. It’s one of the most important roles in the league.
In addition to the standard volunteer requirements (background check, SafeSport, Live Scan, Safe Haven, etc.), coaches must complete the age-appropriate AYSO coaching certification based on the division they are coaching.
Training is completed through AYSOU (eTrainU) in Sports Connect.

You can review the full pathway in the AYSO Coaching Training Matrix (available in AYSOU).
